The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has officially directed the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to fast-track investigations into the mysterious death of Mr. Albert Ojwang, amid mounting public pressure and concern over alleged police misconduct.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the ODPP confirmed it is “keenly following the circumstances surrounding the death of Mr. Albert Ojwang,” and acknowledged that IPOA had already launched investigations, as indicated in its statement dated June 9, 2025.

Quoting Article 157(4) of the Constitution and Section 5(2) of the ODPP Act, the Director of Public Prosecutions has ordered IPOA to submit a complete investigation file within seven days for review and appropriate legal action.
“The Director of Public Prosecutions has directed the IPOA to expedite the said investigations. The resultant investigation file should be submitted to the DPP within seven (7) days for review and appropriate action,” the ODPP stated.
While the exact circumstances of Mr. Ojwang’s death remain unclear, the DPP’s firm directive signals heightened attention to potential cases of police abuse or negligence. Rights groups and members of the public have called for transparency and justice following Ojwang’s death, which they believe may involve foul play.
The ODPP reiterated its commitment to constitutional mandates and the public interest, saying it will act strictly in accordance with the law and principles of justice.
“The ODPP remains committed to executing its constitutional mandate in accordance with the law, public interest, and administration of justice,” the statement concluded.
Albert Ojwang’s death now becomes a critical test of the criminal justice system’s ability to hold security forces accountable. The public awaits IPOA’s findings with anticipation as pressure mounts for clarity and justice.
