The National Police Service (NPS) has reassured Kenyans about the country’s security following recent gang-related incidents in Mombasa, Kilifi, and Siaya counties, as detectives intensify operations that have led to fresh arrests linked to violent robbery and burglary in Kilifi.

In a press statement released on Friday, the Office of the Inspector General confirmed swift police action, resulting in arrests, recoveries of stolen items, and ongoing investigations aimed at restoring public confidence.

On January 28, 2026, a security guard in Tononoka, Mombasa, was attacked by a group of young men armed with crude weapons.

Police confirmed two key suspects were arrested, while a third remains at large. Knives and a machete were recovered, and the case is now before the court.

In Mtwapa, Kilifi County, detectives investigated a shop owner attack captured on CCTV the same day. Three suspects were arrested and multiple items recovered, including crude weapons, 49 mobile phones, electronics, and gas cylinders. The suspects are assisting further investigations.

In a related operation, Kilifi South Sub-County detectives arrested six suspects linked to a violent robbery and burglary in Mtwapa. Acting on intelligence, officers tracked the suspects to a hideout in Vipingo, where Mustafa Majeza Juma, Bubbline Kitsao Kazungu, and Abdul Mwatondo Matano were arrested.

A search recovered six mobile phones, eight national ID cards, two Somali swords, two pangas, and a cash bail receipt connected to an active warrant for robbery with violence.
Interrogation led to the arrest of three additional accomplices — Swale Mwarauka, Mohammed Juma, and Hamisi Rama — at a second hideout. Officers recovered 18 large rolls of cannabis sativa, a weighing scale, and Sh7,000 believed to be proceeds of crime.

All six suspects were arraigned in court with detectives granted 14-day custodial orders.
In Bondo, Siaya County, a specialized team of detectives has reported a major breakthrough in another incident, with further updates expected as investigations continue.

The NPS emphasized that all crime will be confronted firmly and lawfully, commending the public for providing critical information. Inspector General Douglas Kanja directed officers to enhance security operations nationwide to ensure the safety of people and property.

Kenyans are urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to the nearest police station, through law enforcement officers. The statement comes amid public concern over security, with authorities reaffirming their commitment to maintaining law and order and tackling criminal activity decisively.
