The National Liberal Party (NLP) has ruled out any political alignment with either the government or opposition, signaling a cautious and independent approach as the country’s political landscape begins to take shape ahead of the 2027 General Election.

In a statement, Party Leader Dr Augustus Kyalo Muli said the party’s loyalty remains firmly with its members and the people of Ukambani, dismissing expectations that it would back any established political faction.

“To those expecting me to throw NLP’s weight behind another party or leader — that will not happen,” he said.

Dr Muli stated that the party will continue to criticise the administration of President William Ruto while also holding to account the opposition figures led by Rigathi Gachagua and Kalonzo Musyoka.

He said NLP would not be drawn into what he termed as political contests that do not prioritise the interests of ordinary citizens.

“We are not in anyone’s pocket. We are not taking sides in their political games,” he added. The remarks come amid increasing political activity and realignments, particularly in the Ukambani region, where leaders are positioning themselves for influence in the next election cycle.

Dr Muli said the party’s focus is on building a platform grounded in integrity, accountability and service to the public, noting that its support will only go to leaders and initiatives that reflect the interests of Kenyans.

“Our position is simple: we will stand with those who are genuinely on the side of the people,” he said.

The NLP leader described the party’s agenda as a values-driven approach aimed at offering an alternative to traditional political alignments.
