Kitui West MP aspirant Nicholas Wambua has urged parents to take greater responsibility for their children’s safety, social interactions and digital exposure during the ongoing long school holiday.
Wambua, who serves as a Director at Tana Athi Water Works Development Agency and is seeking the Kitui West parliamentary seat on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket, cautioned parents against allowing smartphones and other digital devices to replace parental guidance.
He said parents should remain actively involved in their children’s lives, understand their friendships and know the people they interact with, particularly when attending parties and other social gatherings.

Wambua also warned against excessive exposure to digital content at an early age, urging parents to listen to their children’s concerns, understand their needs and engage them in meaningful conversations rather than leaving technology to shape their upbringing.
He observed that today’s teenagers face different social realities from those experienced by young people in the 1990s and earlier generations, requiring parents to adopt more deliberate approaches to communication, mentorship and supervision.
He further challenged parents to support their children’s educational journeys by taking them to the schools where their academic performance qualifies them for admission once examination results are released.
