The Ministry of Education has officially announced new school fees caps across the country, a move designed to ease the financial burden on parents and guardians.

Under the new guidelines, day schools will now require no household contribution, making basic education accessible to all children regardless of their family’s financial situation.
For special schools, which cater to learners with additional needs, the household contribution has been capped at KSh 12,790, reflecting the extra support these institutions provide.

Boarding schools, which often pose the greatest financial challenge to families, will charge a maximum household contribution of KSh 53,554, ensuring predictability and fairness in education costs.
The Ministry emphasized that these reforms are part of a broader strategy to make education more equitable and protect families from unpredictable fees.
Schools have been instructed to strictly adhere to the new caps, while parents and guardians are encouraged to report any violations to the nearest education office.
