Detectives from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau, in collaboration with the Operations Support Unit, have arrested a Nairobi man, Brian Andore, for filing a fraudulent kidnapping report involving his alleged mistress, Mercy Awuor.
The drama began on November 9, 2024, when Andore reported to Kitisuru Police Station that Mercy had been abducted by unknown assailants. According to him, the kidnappers had lured her with a fake job offer and were demanding a ransom of Ksh 150,000 for her release.
The alarming report triggered a swift rescue operation by the detectives, who apprehended the first suspect in Gitaru. However, upon interrogation, it was revealed that the suspect’s phone number had not been used to demand the ransom as claimed by Andore.
As the investigation progressed, the detectives expanded their search, eventually locating Mercy safe and sound in Oldonyo Orok, Narok South. To their surprise, she was found at the home of George Odada, who turned out to be her husband of six years, with whom she shares a five-year-old daughter.
Further investigation revealed the real motive behind the false report. Mercy had been in a relationship with Andore, but she had decided to end the affair and return to her husband, Odada. This decision seemingly drove Andore to file the fake kidnapping report in an attempt to create chaos.
Both Mercy and Andore have now been escorted to Nairobi for further interrogation and processing. The case has raised concerns over the misuse of police resources and the consequences of personal vendettas affecting law enforcement efforts.
This bizarre incident highlights the dangers of unresolved relationship conflicts spilling over into public safety matters, as well as the importance of truth in such serious matters.
