A family from Zombe, Kitui East Constituency, is in distress after the body of their deceased relative mysteriously disappeared from Kitui Level 4 Hospital Mortuary on the very day they were set to take it home for final respects.

Speaking exclusively to Channel 15 News, the grief-stricken family from “Makutano Ma Kwa Mbaya” area decried what they termed as gross negligence and unprofessionalism from the mortuary attendants and hospital administration.

“We are devastated. We came to pick our loved one’s body, only to be presented with the wrong body. This is beyond shocking! How does a body just disappear from a mortuary?” lamented a relative who requested anonymity.

According to the family, their kin was admitted to Kitui Level 4 Hospital after being referred there due to severe complications. Unfortunately, the patient succumbed to the illness and, following standard procedure, their body was transferred to the hospital mortuary.

However, during the identification process today, the family was stunned to discover that the body presented to them was not that of their relative. They refused to take the unidentified body, demanding answers from the hospital administration.

Channel 15 News reached out to the Ministry of Health officials at Kitui County Level 4 Hospital for a comment, but our calls went unanswered. Additionally, attempts to contact Kitui County Chief Officer Benson Musyoka, who oversees operations at the hospital, were unsuccessful as he did not respond to our inquiries.

Shock and Disbelief in the Community

The shocking incident has sent waves of concern across Kitui County, raising questions about the integrity of the hospital’s mortuary operations. The family now demands immediate intervention from county authorities to locate their relative’s remains and hold those responsible accountable.

As the family continues to search for answers, the case raises critical concerns over the management of the county’s health facilities. Is this an isolated incident, or could it be an indication of a bigger problem within Kitui Level 4 Hospital’s mortuary services?

Authorities are now under pressure to investigate this alarming case and ensure justice for the grieving family. Channel 15 News will keep following up on this story to uncover the truth behind the missing body.
