The sudden demise of Lucas Muthoka popularly known as “Kitengenizi”, a respected political influencer from Mavui village, has sent shockwaves across Kitui County. Muthoka, who succumbed to a short illness, was a vocal and influential digital strategist whose political footprint extended beyond Mwingi West.

Muthoka first gained prominence during the unsuccessful gubernatorial campaign of PS Jonathan Mueke, where he played a key role in online mobilization. However, he later shifted allegiance to former Cabinet Secretary Peninah Malonza, to whom he remained fiercely loyal until his last days. His dedication saw him deeply involved in grassroots politics, amplifying Malonza’s agenda both online and on the ground.

Just two days before his untimely passing, Muthoka was actively engaged in the countywide water tank distribution initiative spearheaded by Malonza. The program, aimed at improving water accessibility for all Kitui residents, was one of the many projects he passionately supported, believing in its long-term impact on the community.

His unexpected death, coupled with that of Musyoka Mutuku from Kyome village on the same day, has cast a dark cloud over Mwingi West. Friends, political allies, and residents continue to mourn a young man whose influence in Kitui’s political scene was undeniable.

As tributes pour in, many are left wondering who will fill the void left by Muthoka, a man who used his voice to shape political narratives and push for community-driven initiatives.
