Senior Economic Advisor Moses Kuria faced a challenging moment during the burial of Murang’a County Nominated MCA Mark Gicheru Wainaina on Saturday, as mourners expressed their dissatisfaction with political leadership in dramatic fashion.
The service took a tense turn when mourners outrightly rejected the reading of condolence messages from President William Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki. The rejection was seen as a clear indication of growing discontent with the country’s leadership, particularly in Murang’a County.
Adding to the drama, Kuria was interrupted while addressing mourners. A man in the crowd began singing a hymn loudly, drowning out Kuria’s speech. The individual persisted, and the congregation, along with the organist, joined in, effectively forcing the senior economic advisor to abandon his remarks.
The presiding priest stepped in to diffuse the tension, leading another worship hymn to restore calm and refocus the mourners on the solemnity of the occasion.
The burial, meant to honor the late Gicheru, became a platform for mourners to voice their frustrations. Despite the disruptions, tributes to Gicheru’s service and dedication to the community were shared, with attendees calling for unity and a renewed focus on local challenges.
This incident highlights the disconnect between political leaders and the public, as citizens increasingly demand accountability and tangible change.
