Police in Migori County have launched investigations into the killing of a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer after her body was found inside her home in Suna East Sub-County on Christmas Day, leading to the arrest of close family members.

The deceased has been identified as Second Lieutenant Synthia Awuor Mboya, a 28-year-old KDF officer whose body was discovered in her bedroom at Nyahera Village, Migori County. Police say the officer’s body bore visible injuries, pointing to possible foul play.
Following preliminary investigations, police arrested her husband, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law as detectives intensified efforts to reconstruct events leading to her death. Authorities say the arrests are part of ongoing investigations and do not rule out the possibility of more suspects.

Detectives revisited the scene of the crime and recovered several items believed to be crucial to the case. Among them were clothing suspected to belong to the husband, which officers believe could help establish movements before and after the incident.
Police also searched the husband’s shop in Migori town, where they reportedly recovered a panga with suspected blood stains, now subjected to forensic examination.

Investigators further revealed that two mobile phones belonging to the deceased officer are missing, raising questions about a possible attempt to conceal evidence or tamper with communication records prior to or after the killing.

In his statement to police, the husband claimed he had returned home late at night and found the house doors open before discovering his wife’s lifeless body in the bedroom.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing to establish the motive behind the killing, with forensic analysis and interrogations continuing. Police have indicated that additional arrests may be made as more evidence emerges.

The incident has sent shockwaves across Migori County and within the wider security fraternity, renewing calls for swift and thorough investigations to ensure justice for the fallen officer.
