Makueni County is set to become a major sporting powerhouse following a groundbreaking partnership that will see the establishment of an elite sports academy. Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding with Champions Pathway Academy (CPA) and United States-based Angels at Bat to create a cutting-edge facility designed to nurture top-tier athletes.

This transformative initiative will not only provide state-of-the-art training infrastructure but also equip young talents with leadership, education, and life skills, positioning Makueni as a key player in global sports development.
The academy, to be built in Makueni, will feature state-of-the-art training infrastructure aimed at harnessing local talent and positioning the county as a key player in regional and global sports. Beyond athletic excellence, the initiative will focus on instilling leadership, education, and life skills among young athletes.

“This is more than just a sports project; it is an investment in our youth, equipping them with skills that extend beyond the field and into their future careers,” Governor Mutula stated during the signing ceremony in Wote. He emphasized the economic benefits of the project, noting that it would boost sports tourism, create jobs, and provide scholarship opportunities for talented young athletes.

Champions Pathway Academy CEO Albert Munane highlighted the importance of structured sports development, stating that it is a powerful tool for discipline, career growth, and social transformation. He stressed that the academy would provide professional coaching, international exposure, and mentorship to young talents, offering them a pathway to professional sports careers.

Angels at Bat representative Justus Musia praised the cultural exchange opportunities that the academy would foster, enabling Kenyan athletes to interact with international peers and gain global recognition.

Present at the signing ceremony were Makueni County Sports Executive Committee Member Eng. Sebastian Kyoni, Chief Officer Nicholis Mutua, Sports Director Ambrose Kisoi, and Senior Sports Officer Charles Muthoka. Their presence reaffirmed the county’s unwavering commitment to sports development.

This ambitious project is expected to transform Makueni into a sporting hub, setting a precedent for other counties to follow. With international collaboration and a vision for excellence, the initiative is poised to unlock immense potential for Kenya’s next generation of sports champions.
