Machakos County’s legal adviser, James Kathili, has officially stepped aside from his role following accusations of underperformance by Governor Wavinya Ndeti during a recent Senate summons.

Channel 15 News has obtained Kathili’s resignation letter addressed to Governor Ndeti, in which he confirmed his decision to step down as the County Attorney. The resignation letter reads in part:
“I hereby tender my resignation from office as the County Attorney, Machakos County Government. Thank you for the opportunity to serve the people of Machakos. I wish you well as you continue to steer the County of Machakos to great heights.”

Kathili’s resignation follows a contentious exchange between him and Governor Wavinya, who accused him of failing to deliver during a Senate appearance that scrutinized Machakos County’s legal affairs. However, Kathili had previously defended himself, stating that he learned of the allegations through the media.
The resignation marks a significant shift in the county’s leadership as Governor Wavinya Ndeti aims to realign her team to ensure effective service delivery. Kathili’s exit is expected to prompt discussions about the challenges facing the legal department in Machakos County and the need for stronger leadership in critical government functions.
This development comes as the county government faces mounting pressure to address issues raised during the Senate hearings, with stakeholders calling for accountability and efficient governance.
