They appear side by side in matching outfits, share affectionate captions, and exchange jaw-dropping gifts—but when asked, Kamba socialite Joan Mutheu and US-based medic Abednecho Katue maintain that they’re “just friends.” Still, fans are convinced there’s more brewing behind the scenes.

In a much-anticipated interview with digital content creator Ricky B, the two addressed the swirling dating rumours—but in a way that only sparked more questions than answers.

Katue, known for his inspirational talks and philanthropic gestures, described Joan as a focused, hardworking woman whose personality drew him in.
“She’s hardworking and has a beautiful personality,” he said. Yet when asked point-blank about the nature of their relationship, he left the door wide open:
“I wouldn’t convince online in-laws otherwise; they have a right to believe what they want to, and there’s no way I could change their thinking.”

Mutheu, whose bold fashion sense and viral digital stunts have earned her socialite status, also played coy.
“Since meeting him, I’ve been living a soft life,” she confessed with a cheeky grin.
One major reason fans aren’t letting this “just friends” narrative slide is the infamous birthday land gift. During Mutheu’s birthday last year, Katue surprised her by renting her a piece of land—a grand, romantic gesture that left fans screaming mapenzi iko juu.

And that wasn’t the only splashy move. This Valentine’s Day, Mutheu shared photos of a Sh150,000 cash bouquet and hinted at receiving even more land-related surprises—though she never named who the gifts came from, many believe it could only be Katue.
Their online synergy, frequent collaborations, and “mentorship” branding continue to raise eyebrows.
“Wacheni mchezo! That’s not mentorship, that’s a situationship,” a fan commented under one of their shared videos.

Despite their best efforts to downplay the connection, the chemistry is unmistakable. Whether it’s genuine privacy or a PR tease, one thing is clear: Joan Mutheu and Abednecho Katue are denying what fans are already convinced of—and Kenyans on social media are hearing none of it.
