Traders operating in Kitui’s Kalundu Market, Kitui Central Constituency, have elected new officials to spearhead the reorganization of their union, now known as the Kitui Business Association (KBA).

In elections held Monday evening at the Kitui Township Chief’s office, Rodgers Wambua was elected as the Chairperson after garnering 11 votes, narrowly beating Harrison Maasai, who managed 9 votes.
The Vice Chairperson position went to Makola Musyoka, who emerged victorious with 12 votes against his opponent. Lucy Mutinda clinched the Secretary position with 10 votes, defeating Kiti Musyimi by a margin of two votes.
In a closely contested race for Vice Secretary, Safari Kitangati edged out Mutindi Anastacia by a single vote, scoring 10 votes to Anastacia’s 9. Meanwhile, Mumo Kaluti secured the Treasury position with 12 votes, overcoming Ruth Waambua, who got 8 votes.
The new leadership will serve for the next three years as stipulated by the association’s constitution. During this period, the officials are expected to collaborate with local authorities to ensure Kitui Town and its environs remain conducive for business.
Their agenda includes advocating for policies that favor traders, maintaining cleanliness in the business environment, and ensuring the safety and growth of local businesses.
