The government has taken a bold step towards modernizing the livestock sector by rolling out a digital transformation initiative under the DRIVE Project, a move set to reshape how farmers access crucial services.

The State Department for Livestock is spearheading this ambitious shift, aimed at enhancing efficiency and accessibility for farmers across the country. This afternoon, a high-level multisectoral meeting was convened to oversee the implementation of this transformative project.

At the heart of the initiative is the digitization of key programs, allowing livestock farmers to remotely access government subsidies, livestock insurance, and credit facilities—crucial elements in improving productivity, expanding market access, and boosting overall sector growth.
With this shift, farmers will no longer have to navigate bureaucratic hurdles to receive government support. Instead, the new system promises real-time access to services, reducing delays and enhancing transparency in the allocation of subsidies and credit.

This digital leap comes at a time when Kenya’s agricultural sector is under pressure to modernize in response to climate change, fluctuating market conditions, and increasing demand for efficiency. If successfully implemented, the DRIVE Project could be a game-changer for Kenya’s livestock industry, potentially setting a precedent for other sectors to follow.

As the government ramps up efforts to make this vision a reality, all eyes will be on its execution and the tangible impact it will have on farmers who rely on the livestock sector for their livelihoods.
