The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced plans to construct a permanent national headquarters dubbed the Uchaguzi Centre in Ruai at a projected cost of Sh3.5 billion.
IEBC CEO Marjan Hussein Marjan confirmed that construction is expected to commence in July 2026, subject to availability of funds. The electoral body is seeking Sh201 million in the 2026/27 financial year and an additional Sh602 million in 2027/28 to facilitate the initial phases of the project.

“This will be a state-of-the-art facility serving as the commission’s central command centre during electoral periods and a permanent home for its operations,” Marjan said.
The project marks a significant shift from the commission’s long-standing reliance on leased office spaces and is intended to improve logistical coordination, reduce long-term rental costs, and boost institutional stability ahead of future elections.
The Uchaguzi Centre will also serve as a secure data, results, and stakeholder engagement hub during elections, and a training and research institute during off-peak periods.
