Kitui Governor Julius Malombe on Monday joined hundreds of mourners in Katheka, Kitui West, to pay their last respects during the requiem mass and burial ceremony of the late Veronica Mulila, the matriarch of the Mulila family and mother to Safaricom executive Nicholas Mulila.

The emotional ceremony brought together national and county leaders, family members, friends, and residents who gathered to celebrate the life of the respected elder whose legacy, speakers said, was deeply rooted in hard work and education.

In his tribute, Governor Malombe eulogized the late Veronica Mulila as a strong pillar in her family and community who consistently encouraged young people to pursue education as a path toward a better future.

“Veronica Mulila believed in hard work and education. Her dedication to raising a responsible and accomplished family is a testament to the values she stood for,” the governor said.

The governor also praised the Mulila family for upholding unity and service to society, noting that the late matriarch’s values are reflected in the achievements of her children.

Among the leaders present at the burial were Kitui Deputy Governor Augustine Kanani, Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua, Kitui West MP Edith Nyenze, and Mwingi West MP Charles Nguna.

Also in attendance were Kitui Woman Representative Irene Kasalu, Kaiti MP Joshua Kimilu, Commission on Revenue Allocation Commissioner Ben Muasya, and Kitui County Assembly Speaker Kevin Kinengo.

Several Members of the Kitui County Assembly and senior county officials also attended the ceremony in solidarity with the Mulila family.

Members of the County Executive Committee were also present, particularly those who serve alongside Charles Mulila at the County Budget and Economic Forum (CBEF), highlighting the late matriarch’s connection to a family actively involved in both public and private sector leadership.

The ceremony drew large crowds from across Kitui County, with residents describing the late Veronica Mulila as a humble and supportive community elder who inspired many families to prioritize education and discipline.

She was laid to rest at her Katheka home in Kitui West amid prayers, tributes, and heartfelt memories shared by those who knew her.
