The Kenyan media fraternity is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Silas Apollo, a brilliant former NTV journalist, who tragically lost his life in a hit-and-run accident along Kiambu Road in Nairobi.

Apollo, who was at the time serving as a writer with Nairobi Law Monthly, was struck by a speeding vehicle on the night of Thursday, April 10, as he attempted to cross the road on foot. In a cruel twist of fate, the driver fled the scene without offering help — turning the incident into a chilling case of hit-and-run.

Initial police reports classified the tragedy as one involving “an unknown person hit by an unknown vehicle.” For hours, his identity remained a mystery. His loved ones would later receive the devastating news at the mortuary, where they were informed that the body had been brought in shortly after the crash — unclaimed and unidentified.
“It was at the mortuary where we finally learned the truth,” a grieving family member said. “We had no idea Silas had been involved in an accident. No one called. No one knew. Just silence until we got there.”

His remains have since been moved to the morgue, pending a postmortem examination. Police say investigations are underway to trace the driver responsible and piece together the circumstances that led to the fatal crash.
Silas Apollo was known for his sharp reporting, integrity, and deep curiosity — traits that earned him admiration both at NTV and in his most recent role at Nairobi Law Monthly. Former colleagues describe him as a humble, dedicated professional with a heart for truth and a talent for storytelling.

His tragic and senseless death has sparked an outpouring of grief and tributes from journalists, friends, and the general public, all calling for justice and answers.
