The Holy Father, Pope Francis, has accepted the resignation of Rt. Rev. Ireri Mukobo, ICM, from his role as Bishop of the Diocese of Isiolo, after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 75, as stipulated by Canon Law. In the Catholic Church, bishops must submit their resignation upon reaching this age, with the Pope determining when to accept it.
Fr. Peter Munguti Makau, ICM, who has been serving as the Co-adjutor Bishop, will now take over as the new Bishop of Isiolo, assuming full responsibility for the diocese’s spiritual and pastoral leadership.
Bishop Makau hails from The King Masii Parish in Machakos Diocese and was officially ordained as a bishop on July 27th this year.
The appointment of Bishop Makau comes barely hours after a similar announcement by the Holy See, effecting leadership changes in the Diocese of Wote. Following the illness of the diocese’s leader, Pope Francis appointed Machakos Bishop Norman King’oo Wambua as the Apostolic Administrator to oversee the Diocese of Wote.
