Detectives in Nairobi have arrested former Baringo Central MP and ex-Lands Commissioner Sammy Silas Komen Mwaita over his alleged involvement in a fraudulent land deal involving two prime plots in Nairobi West.

The arrest, carried out in Kilimani, was confirmed by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), following fresh instructions from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). Mwaita is facing multiple charges including:

    Conspiracy to commit a felony

    Making a document without authority

    Abuse of office

Providing false information to a public servant

Former Baringo Central MP Sammy Mwaita shortly after his arrest in Nairobi’s Kilimani area, where detectives linked him to a multi-million shilling land fraud involving two prime plots in Nairobi West.

The case revolves around two contested parcels of land situated along Mai Mahiu Road, whose combined value is estimated in the millions of shillings. Authorities allege that Mwaita was part of a scheme to forge ownership documents and manipulate the allocation process while leveraging his past position in the Lands Ministry.

“The suspect is currently being processed for arraignment in court,” read a statement from the DCI, adding that a search is underway for his alleged accomplice, who remains at large.

This latest arrest adds to the growing list of land-related controversies that have followed Mwaita since his days as Commissioner of Lands — a position he held before entering elective politics in 2007.

His arrest is expected to reignite public debate on historical land injustices and accountability of former public officials, especially those linked to Kenya’s long-troubled land sector.
