A tragic incident has been reported at Litare Beach in Rusinga Island, Homa Bay County, where a fisherman allegedly died by suicide after a domestic dispute with his wife. The altercation reportedly arose after David Ochieng, a 28-year-old fisherman, lost Ksh 9,000, which he is said to have used in a popular online gambling game known as Aviator.
According to sources, Ochieng hid the cash in his house before engaging in the gambling game, only to lose the entire amount. After discovering the money was missing, Ochieng accused his wife of stealing it, leading to a heated argument. Distraught by the loss and the confrontation, Ochieng allegedly took his own life.
The incident has sparked concerns about the growing addiction to online gambling in the area, with games like Aviator gaining popularity among young people. Authorities and local leaders are now urging the community to seek help and counseling services to prevent further tragedies linked to gambling and domestic disputes.
Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
This case has once again highlighted the negative impact of gambling on family life, particularly in vulnerable communities where financial strain is already prevalent.
