FIFA has officially lifted financial sanctions imposed on the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), paving the way for the immediate resumption of development funding under the FIFA Forward Programme.
In a letter dated December 15, 2025, FIFA informed FKF that its Governance, Audit and Compliance Committee (GACC), during a meeting held on December 8, 2025, positively reviewed the federation’s progress following a central audit review. The committee resolved that the standard release of FIFA Forward development funds be reinstated with immediate effect.
The sanctions had earlier led to the suspension of development funding as FIFA subjected FKF to heightened scrutiny over governance and financial management issues. According to FIFA, the decision to lift the restrictions followed positive steps taken by FKF in implementing an agreed action plan and improved audit outcomes.
Despite the reinstatement of funding, FKF will continue operating under a monthly reporting framework on the use of FIFA Forward funds. This enhanced oversight will remain in place at least until the next GACC meeting scheduled for March 2026.
FKF President Hussein Mohammed welcomed the decision, describing it as a major milestone in the federation’s reform journey. He said the move signals renewed confidence by FIFA in the direction being taken by the current FKF leadership.
“This decision by FIFA is a strong vote of confidence in the direction we are taking as a Federation. Step by step, we are fixing Kenyan football by strengthening governance, improving financial management, and restoring credibility at all levels,” Hussein said.
He added that the outcome was the result of discipline, hard work, and collective responsibility by the FKF leadership and secretariat, reaffirming the federation’s commitment to transparency and compliance with FIFA regulations.
The restored funding is expected to support FKF programmes focused on grassroots football development, infrastructure, capacity building, and the overall growth of the game across the country.
FKF reiterated its commitment to upholding high standards of governance, accountability, and financial integrity as it continues to work closely with FIFA to strengthen football development in Kenya.
