Detectives in Kirinyaga East Sub-County have arrested a man suspected of impersonating a police officer and recovered several government-issued items from his possession.
The suspect, identified as Newton Wachira Waweru, was apprehended following an intelligence-led operation. After his arrest, he led officers to his residence in Makongeni, Thika, where a search was conducted.

The search yielded various items believed to be government stores, including:
Two police smoke jackets
Two jungle green trousers
A green prison lanyard
Desert military boots
A replica firearm
Additional clothing and accessories commonly associated with law enforcement

According to officials, the recovered items raise concerns about the suspect’s activities and potential interactions with the public while posing as an officer.
Waweru is currently in custody and undergoing standard processing as detectives prepare to present him in court. Authorities have also launched further investigations to determine whether the suspect may have been involved in any other illegal activities under the guise of a police officer.
Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious individuals posing as officers to the nearest station.
