The Nairobi Anti-Corruption Court has sentenced former Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC) General Manager for Finance and ICT, Noah Okech Oluoch (alias Noah Oketch Oluoch), to pay hefty fines totaling over KSh 3.1 million or serve four years in prison for using a fake academic degree to secure his job.
The court heard that between April 1 and August 31, 2022, Oluoch fraudulently earned KSh 1.45 million in salary and allowances after presenting a forged MBA degree certificate. For this offence, he was ordered to pay KSh 100,000 or serve one year in jail, plus a mandatory fine of KSh 2.91 million or serve two more years in jail.
Separately, he was convicted of uttering a false document on March 23, 2021, when he knowingly presented the forged MBA certificate—purporting it to be from the University of Nairobi—to CPA Peter Mbugua, REREC’s CEO. For this, he received an additional KSh 100,000 fine or one-year jail term.
Magistrate Celesa Okore directed that the sentences run consecutively, meaning Oluoch could face up to four years in prison if he fails to pay the fines. The case was prosecuted by Assistant DPP Kanana Kimiri.
