Kenya is mourning the sudden death of Johana Ng’eno, the Member of Parliament for Emurua Dikirr Constituency, who perished in a tragic helicopter crash on Saturday evening.
In an official communication from the Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang’ula, the House was notified of the untimely demise of the legislator, who lost his life alongside five other passengers.
Helicopter Crash in Mosop, Nandi County
According to the statement, the crash occurred on Saturday, 28th February 2026 at around 4:45pm in Mosop, Nandi County. The ill-fated helicopter went down under circumstances that are yet to be fully disclosed.

The Speaker described the incident as tragic and heartbreaking, noting that Parliament and the country had lost a dedicated leader and servant of the people.
Third-Term MP and Committee Chair
The late Johana Ng’eno was serving his third consecutive term in Parliament, having first been elected in 2013. Until his death, he chaired the Departmental Committee on Housing, Urban Planning and Public Works and was also a Member of the Liaison Committee.

During his leadership, the committee played a key role in the passage of the Affordable Housing Act, which established a framework to enhance access to affordable housing for Kenyans.
In the 12th Parliament, Ng’eno also served as a Member of the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee.
Education and Legal Career
Born in 1972, the late MP attended Mogondo Primary School and later Maseno National School. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Law from Kyiv TSN University in Ukraine before advancing his studies in Kenya.
Ng’eno held: A Master of Arts in International Studies from the University of Nairobi, A Bachelor of Laws degree from Mount Kenya University and A Postgraduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law. In September 2025, he was admitted to the Bar as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
Parliament Sends Condolences
On behalf of the National Assembly and the Parliamentary Service Commission, Speaker Wetang’ula conveyed heartfelt condolences to the family of the late MP and the families of the other victims.
A team led by Tinderet MP Julius Melly, assisted by Buuri MP Mugambi Rindikiri, has been appointed to liaise with the family and coordinate burial arrangements.
Further details regarding the crash and funeral arrangements are expected to be communicated in due course.
Kenya now joins Emurua Dikirr Constituency in mourning a legislator remembered for his service, legal expertise, and role in shaping housing policy.
