The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has recovered KSh 65.3 million in cash during a search operation at the Syokimau residence of Patrick Analo Akivaga, the Nairobi County Chief Officer for Urban Development and Planning.

In a statement issued on Thursday, EACC Chief Executive Officer Abdi Ahmed Mohamud said the operation was part of ongoing investigations into alleged corruption and economic crimes involving the county official.

According to the commission, Analo is under investigation over allegations of conflict of interest, abuse of office, bribery and possession of unexplained wealth.

“It is alleged that Mr. Analo receives millions of shillings in cash and M-Pesa deposits,” the statement said.

EACC disclosed that investigators recovered KSh 51.3 million in cash and USD 113,000 (approximately KSh 14 million), bringing the total amount seized to KSh 65.3 million.

The money was reportedly recovered from Analo’s residence in Syokimau, Machakos County, and from the boot of his motor vehicle.

The commission further alleged that the suspect has accumulated assets that are disproportionate to his known legitimate sources of income.

Besides the cash haul, investigators recovered several title deeds, motor vehicle logbooks, laptops, mobile phones, iPads, electronic accessories, land and motor vehicle sale agreements, approval plans from Nairobi County Government and other documentary evidence believed to be relevant to the probe.

EACC said the evidence obtained during the operation will support ongoing investigations and help determine the next course of action.

“Upon conclusion of the investigations, the findings will inform appropriate action, including prosecution and the recovery of unexplained wealth and proceeds of corruption,” the commission stated.

The recovery marks one of the largest cash seizures announced by EACC in recent months as the agency intensifies investigations into suspected corruption and unexplained wealth among public officials.
