Residents of Kasameini Village in Kibwezi, Makueni County were on Tuesday left in shock after a swarm of bees invaded a burial ceremony, forcing mourners to scamper for safety.

The bizarre incident occurred as family and friends gathered to lay to rest the late Kyalo Kasyoki. According to eyewitnesses who spoke to Channel 15 News, the ceremony was progressing normally until the casket was brought out of the house for the final rites.

“It was sudden. A swarm of bees just swung in and started attacking people around the homestead. Everyone ran in different directions looking for shelter,” said one mourner.

The unexpected attack brought the burial to a standstill, with mourners seeking refuge inside nearby houses and others fleeing the compound entirely. Some later returned after the situation calmed down, while a number of attendees reportedly left for good.

The late Kyalo Kasyoki had succumbed to injuries sustained in a tragic road accident last Sunday at Kasameini Shopping Centre. He was reportedly knocked down by a motorbike while crossing the road.

By the time calm returned to the homestead, the ceremony had been significantly delayed, leaving family members shaken by the unusual turn of events.

Local residents described the incident as rare, noting that bee invasions of such magnitude are uncommon during social gatherings in the area. No serious injuries had been confirmed by the time of publication.
