Kitui County Woman Representative Dr. Irene Kasalu has been ranked Kenya’s Best Performing Woman Representative in 2025, according to the Mizani Africa Performance Index, a nationwide survey that assesses the impact and efficiency of leaders across the country.
With an impressive performance score of 74.8%, Dr. Kasalu topped the national list, outshining counterparts from Tana River, Kakamega, Siaya, and Uasin Gishu counties. The ranking highlights her outstanding track record in championing women and youth empowerment, advancing inclusive social programs, and ensuring transparent use of the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) in Kitui County.

According to Mizani Africa, the top-performing Women Representatives have distinguished themselves through consistent advocacy for marginalized groups, strong oversight on resource use, and well-targeted programs that directly benefit vulnerable populations. Dr. Kasalu’s leadership, the report notes, embodies these qualities through initiatives that have improved access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities for thousands of Kitui residents.
Over the past year, Dr. Kasalu has steered NGAAF-funded projects focusing on education bursaries, skills training for women and youth, support for persons living with disabilities (PLWDs), and community health interventions.
