Dr Augustus Kyalo Muli, the party leader of Kenya’s National Liberal Party (NLP), has been appointed Regional Vice Chair for Africa of the International Alliance of Libertarian Parties (IALP), a global network that brings together libertarian political parties and movements advocating for individual liberty, free markets, and limited government.
The appointment was announced on March 12, 2026, as part of an update to the alliance’s Executive Committee leadership.
According to the communication shared with members, Dr. Muli will represent the African region within the global alliance, a role that places him among leaders responsible for strengthening libertarian political networks across the continent and coordinating cooperation among member parties.
What the Appointment Means
The new position significantly raises Dr. Muli’s international political profile and could strengthen the global connections of Kenya’s National Liberal Party.

Through the role, Muli is expected to help expand the presence of libertarian political movements in Africa while linking African parties to international partners involved in policy development, political training, and governance reforms. For the National Liberal Party, the appointment provides a potential platform to increase its visibility beyond Kenya and position the party within a broader international ideological movement.
Political observers say such international affiliations often help emerging political parties access policy networks, international dialogue platforms, and partnerships with like-minded organizations across different regions.

Growing Visibility in Kenyan Politics
Dr. Muli has in recent years been gradually building the profile of the National Liberal Party, positioning it as a political alternative advocating for economic freedom, limited government, and individual liberties.
His international appointment could therefore strengthen both his personal political standing and the institutional credibility of the NLP as it continues expanding its grassroots structures in Kenya.
Muli hails from Kitui County, a region that forms part of the larger Ukambani political bloc alongside Machakos County and Makueni County.
Global Libertarian Network
The International Alliance of Libertarian Parties is a global coalition that connects libertarian political parties and leaders across continents with the aim of promoting policies centered on individual freedoms, free enterprise, and minimal state intervention.

Dr. Muli’s appointment places him among the alliance’s regional leaders tasked with coordinating the libertarian movement’s activities across Africa.
The announcement also confirmed other members of the alliance’s Executive Committee representing different regions of the world.
