Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has firmly asserted that he is not stepping down from his position, dismissing any speculation about his political future within President William Ruto’s government. Speaking with unwavering confidence, Gachagua emphasized his critical role in ensuring that the Kenya Kwanza government came into power during the 2022 elections.
“I am going nowhere,” Gachagua declared. “I am the one who ensured that Ruto’s government is in power, and I will continue to stand by the President to deliver on our promises to Kenyans.”

His remarks come amid increasing rumors of internal wrangles within the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, with some suggesting there may be a push for a leadership shake-up. However, Gachagua downplayed any suggestion of division within the party, instead focusing on the administration’s achievements.

The Deputy President’s latest statement reinforces his previous assertions, where he has positioned himself as a key architect of the Kenya Kwanza victory. Gachagua has often highlighted his efforts in rallying support, particularly from Mount Kenya, which was instrumental in delivering votes to Ruto’s side during the hotly contested presidential race.
Political observers have noted that Gachagua’s bold stance may be a response to emerging dynamics within UDA, following revelations made by Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba regarding the internal processes that led to his nomination as Ruto’s running mate.
As the 2027 elections draw nearer, it is clear that Gachagua intends to remain a central figure in Kenya’s political landscape, standing firm on his role and contribution to the current administration.
