Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service (DIG-KPS), Mr. Eliud Lagat, sparked surprise and motivation on Thursday, August 14, 2025, after making impromptu visits to Mwingi Police Station in Kitui County and Matuu Police Station in Machakos County.
Mr. Lagat meticulously inspected key departments, including the Report Office, Children and Gender Desk, Cells, Anti-Crime Unit, DCI Offices, Traffic Section and Police Lines. He took time to speak directly with officers on duty, listening to their experiences and concerns.

Addressing officers at both stations, the DIG praised their unwavering dedication, professionalism and commitment to serving the public despite the many challenges they face on the ground.
He further underscored the critical need to prioritise mental health awareness among officers, calling it a foundational aspect of modern policing. Mr. Lagat also highlighted the importance of improving officers’ welfare, boosting morale and strictly upholding integrity in the line of duty.
“Your well-being defines the strength of our service,” Lagat told the officers, urging them to continue working with discipline and transparency.
The rare surprise tour has been applauded as a morale booster for officers in the Lower Eastern region, with many welcoming his push for improved working conditions and wellness interventions.
