Detectives have launched urgent investigations following a dramatic and violent attack on Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers earlier today at Governor George Natembeya’s residence in Trans Nzoia County.

The officers, acting on valid court-issued search warrants, were pursuing leads into a massive KSh 1.4 billion corruption scandal involving irregular procurement and fictitious payments linked to the Trans Nzoia County Government for the financial years 2022/2023 and 2024/2025.

Trouble erupted when a hostile group stormed the governor’s compound mid-operation, overpowering security personnel and unleashing chaos. The mob maliciously damaged five EACC vehicles and looted seized evidence, including critical documents and electronic devices tied to the ongoing investigation.
Initial investigations by the DCI indicate that the attack was well-coordinated and intended to sabotage the anti-graft operation. Authorities suspect that individuals with vested interests in the scandal may have mobilized the group to obstruct justice and destroy evidence critical to the probe.

The search was being conducted in the presence of Governor Natembeya’s family members, the county attorney, and legal representatives when the unexpected disruption occurred—throwing the entire operation into disarray and raising serious concerns about the rule of law in the county.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has vowed to leave no stone unturned in tracking down the perpetrators and bringing them to justice. “This is a direct assault on the rule of law and a desperate attempt to derail justice. No one is above the law,” a senior DCI source stated.

The EACC maintains that the probe will proceed without fear or favour as pressure mounts on the Trans Nzoia leadership to come clean.
Governor Natembeya has yet to make a public statement regarding the incident, but the political fallout is expected to escalate as the scandal continues to unfold.
