Prominent human rights activist Boniface Mwangi was arrested on Saturday, July 19, 2025, by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in connection with the alleged facilitation of terrorist activities during the nationwide anti-government protests held on June 25.
Detectives raided Mwangi’s home in Lukenya, Machakos County, where they confiscated two mobile phones, a laptop, and several notebooks. The operation later extended to his Mageuzi Hub offices on Rose Avenue in Hurlingham, Nairobi.

During the office search, police recovered a cache of items including nine assorted external hard drives, two laptops, company seals for Brave Media Ltd and Courage Ltd, six cheque books, a company stamp, copies of stamp duty documents, two unused tear gas canisters, and one 7.62mm blank round.
Authorities say the items are now part of ongoing investigations into suspected coordination, funding, or facilitation of unlawful activities linked to the June 25 protests.

Mwangi is currently being held at Pangani Police Station and is expected to be arraigned on Monday, July 21, on charges related to facilitation of terrorism and unlawful possession of ammunition.

His legal team has dismissed the accusations as politically motivated, while rights groups have called for transparency and due process in the case.
