The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched investigations into a contested parcel of land in Ruai, Nairobi.

The dispute which was first reported on April 24, 2026, when Catherine Wanderi filed a complaint at DCI Ruai, claiming that an unknown had begun construction on her land.

Detectives visited the site on April 28 and advised her to record a formal statement and submit relevant documents. Although she appeared at the station, she did not complete the process at the time.

The matter later gained public attention after a video circulated on social media alleging the land had been unlawfully taken. As part of the probe, detectives summoned Abdilatif Abdikadir, who is linked to the ongoing construction.

He recorded a statement on May 2 and presented documents, including a lease certificate. He told investigators he purchased the land in 2017 through a formal transaction facilitated by Embakasi Ranching Company.

He has since been directed to stop all construction pending the outcome of the investigations.Ms Wanderi returned to DCI Ruai on May 4, where she recorded her statement and submitted supporting documents, including a share certificate from Embakasi Ranching Company.

Police have opened an inquiry file to establish the rightful owner of the land. Investigations are ongoing, with authorities assuring both parties of a fair and impartial process.

The DCI has urged the public to refrain from drawing conclusions based on unverified information circulating online and to allow investigations to take their course.
