Former UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala has dropped a bombshell, disclosing the names of two opposition lawmakers expected to spearhead an impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. According to Malala, Homabay MP Peter Kaluma and Suna East MP Junet Mohammed have been selected by the bipartisan government to table the motion in the National Assembly in the coming days.
Malala indicated that the impeachment motion has already been drafted and is currently undergoing review before its official tabling. This development sheds light on the growing rift between factions dubbed “Kenya 1” and “Kenya 2,” with key allies involved in the split. Notably, Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah has been mentioned as one of the motion’s pioneers, despite publicly denying any such plans just a day earlier.
Speaking during a church service in Kiambu County, Malala, who was in the company of DP Gachagua, stirred the political landscape further by suggesting that this impeachment process is being driven by internal power struggles within the ruling party.
The revelation is expected to deepen the political tension between the allies of President William Ruto and those aligned with Deputy President Gachagua, with more details expected to unfold in the coming days.
This comes amid persistent denials from key figures like Majority Leader Ichung’wah, who dismissed the impeachment claims as political propaganda.
The Deputy President was in company of Kiambu County Senator Karungo Thang’wa (Kiambu), Murang’a counterpart Joe Nyutu, MPs Gathoni Wamuchomba (Githunguri), James Gakuya (Embakasi North), Benjamin Gathiru Mejjadonk (Embakasi Central), Teresiah Wanjiru (Nominated), former Laikipia Woman Representative Cate Waruguru and MCAs led by the host, Deputy Speaker and Hospital Ward Representative John Njiru, Majority Leader Mucheke Waiyaki, among other leaders.
