Former Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege has cast doubt on the official account surrounding the death of blogger and social media influencer Albert Ojwang’ Omondi, who died in police custody at Central Police Station in Nairobi.

Speaking during the TV47 Morning Caffe show hosted by Fredili Muli, Sabina cited reports indicating that the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) initially declined to book Ojwang’ due to his deteriorating condition.
“Reports say that Central Police Station OCS refused to book Albert Ojwang’ because he was bleeding when he was brought in. So how did Ojwang’ end up in a police cell?” she posed, raising concern over a possible cover-up in the case.
Ojwang’, who was widely known for his activism and outspoken views online, was reportedly arrested under unclear circumstances. Hours later, he was found dead in his cell, prompting public outrage and demands for justice.

As investigations intensify, a postmortem examination on Ojwang’s body is currently underway at the Nairobi Funeral Home. The autopsy is being conducted by government pathologist Dr. Benard Midia, with the deceased’s family and legal representatives present.

Meanwhile, the National Police Service has interdicted six officers from Central Police Station in connection with the incident. The officers—ranging from top leadership to rank-and-file personnel—are said to have been on duty during the night Ojwang’ was detained.
Among those interdicted is the OCS himself, along with his deputy, the duty NCO, a crime aid officer, the cell sentry, and a report office officer. Authorities say internal disciplinary proceedings have commenced as part of a broader inquiry into possible misconduct or negligence.
The case has reignited public debate over police accountability, with civil society groups urging the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) to ensure thorough and transparent investigations.
