The Catholic Church and faithful across Nairobi and Kiambu counties are in deep mourning following the tragic death of Catechist James Njoroge Kabari, his wife Teresia Wanjiru, and their two young children in a fatal road accident at Karai area, Naivasha.

The accident occurred on Monday, January 5, 2026, claiming the lives of the family members identified as Michael Kabari (6 years) and John Mark Kabui (1 year). The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the church community, where James Kabari was widely respected for his devotion and service.
Until his death, James served as a catechist at Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, Ridgeways, where parishioners describe him as a committed and humble servant of God who played a key role in faith formation and pastoral outreach.
The family hails from Ndundu Parish in Gatundu South, Kiambu County, where relatives, friends, and fellow Christians are also grappling with the heartbreaking loss.
As prayers continue for the repose of the souls of the departed and for comfort to the bereaved family, special prayers are being offered for their surviving daughter, Clare Wairimu, who was also involved in the accident. She is currently admitted at Nairobi Women’s Hospital – Naivasha, where she is undergoing treatment.
The tragic incident has once again raised concerns over road safety along the Naivasha–Karai stretch, which has witnessed several fatal accidents in the past.
