Nairobi, August 27, 2025 — Harambee Stars midfielder and Ulinzi Stars captain Boniface Muchiri has been promoted from Senior Private to Corporal by the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Charles Muriu Kahariri, in recognition of his outstanding performances at the African Nations Championship (CHAN).

The colourful ceremony was presided over by General Kahariri, who hailed Muchiri as a model soldier-athlete whose discipline, commitment, and consistency had not only lifted the Kenya Defence Forces’ (KDF) reputation but also brought pride to the country.

Muchiri was one of Kenya’s standout players at CHAN, guiding the Harambee Stars to the quarter-finals with crucial assists and tireless displays before their elimination by Madagascar. His leadership at Ulinzi Stars and unwavering service in KDF further cemented his reputation as a figure who bridges excellence in sport and the military.

The promotion was also backed by Harambee Stars captain Abud Omar, who persistently appealed—including directly to President William Ruto—for Muchiri’s elevation, underscoring the unity and recognition he commands within the squad.

Raised in Nambale, Busia County, Muchiri’s football journey began at St. Mary’s Kibabii High School before he turned professional with Nzoia Sugar, Sony Sugar, Tusker, and eventually Ulinzi Stars, where he has been top scorer for three consecutive seasons. He also had a stint abroad with Los Angeles Force (USA) before returning home to continue his dual service as a soldier and footballer.

Now at 29, Corporal Muchiri stands as both a leader in the barracks and an inspiration on the pitch, embodying what General Kahariri described as “the mission spirit”—serving Kenya with excellence whether in military fatigues or the national team jersey.
