Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has dismissed speculation of Azimio la Umoja’s dissolution, asserting that the coalition remains intact and is working towards a new political vision for the 2027 elections. Kalonzo’s comments follow Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa’s recent announcement of plans to withdraw from Azimio, calling the continued alliance “untenable.”
While speaking in Kitale, both Kalonzo and Wamalwa hinted at forming a new political outfit that would provide an alternative leadership path for Kenyans. They emphasized that the envisioned formation would continue Azimio’s legacy of offering strong opposition to the current administration under President William Ruto.
Kalonzo, who now leads Azimio following Raila Odinga’s shift toward his African Union Chairperson campaign, expressed commitment to Azimio’s founding principles. Other coalition partners, such as ODM’s Abdulswamad Nassir, have backed his leadership, vowing to maintain Azimio’s presence as a formidable opposition force despite DAP-K’s intended exit.
As the coalition prepares for the next election cycle, Kalonzo and his allies aim to build a unified front, projecting resilience and adaptability in response to shifting political dynamics.
