Notorious second-hand car dealer Joseph Kairo Wambui, popularly known as “Khalif Kairo,” is once again in the eye of a legal storm after allegedly defrauding a client of Ksh 2,220,000 in a car deal gone sour.

The embattled dealer, who has been linked to multiple allegations of fraud in the second-hand vehicle industry, is accused of failing to deliver a 2017 BMW X1 despite receiving full payment. The buyer, whose hopes of owning the luxury vehicle have now turned into a nightmare, claims the car has been stranded in Mombasa for over a month due to Kairo’s failure to settle the supplier’s fees.

Victim Speaks Out: “Khalif Kairo is a Thief!”

In a desperate plea for justice, the victim has come forward with damning evidence, including payment receipts and screenshots proving the money was deposited directly into Kairo’s KCB account.

“Khalif Kairo has robbed me of Ksh 2,220,000 🥹. I paid him this amount, and he has not delivered my BMW. I have all the receipts and screenshots as proof. This guy is a thief.”

The distraught client further revealed that the vehicle arrived in Mombasa on December 21, 2023, but has since been held for over a month and a week because Kairo never paid the supplier.

“Now, our cars are being auctioned. We have passed by his car yards, and they are empty. This guy was planning to escape with our money. This is unacceptable! Please help me expose this fraudster.”

Legal Action Taken as Kairo Faces Multiple Fraud Cases

With no response from Kairo, the victim has resorted to legal action, issuing a formal demand letter on January 15, 2025, citing breach of contract and failure to deliver the vehicle as agreed.

This case is just the latest in a string of scandals involving Kairo, who was recently arrested on January 11, 2025, in connection with another fraud case where he allegedly swindled another buyer out of millions. He was arraigned in court on January 13, 2025, and later released on a Ksh 2 million cash bail on January 14, 2025.

With multiple allegations piling up, authorities have launched fresh investigations into Kairo’s fraudulent activities, as frustrated customers demand justice.

    Will Justice Prevail?

As Kairo’s first trial is set for January 28, 2025, victims and industry players are closely watching to see whether he will finally face the full force of the law.

Meanwhile, the scandal has reignited concerns over the lack of regulation in Kenya’s second-hand car market, with many calling for stricter policies to protect unsuspecting buyers from rogue dealers.

With his yards reportedly empty and complaints mounting, the fate of Khalif Kairo now hangs in the balance. Will justice be served, or will this be yet another case of a fraudster walking free?
