The year 2024 marked a period of unprecedented change in Kenya’s media industry, as some of the country’s most celebrated journalists switched roles or exited the local scene altogether. Victoria Rubadiri’s move from Citizen TV to CNN as Africa Correspondent set the tone for a year of bold career decisions. Her departure led to Olive Burrows filling her spot at Citizen TV, having left NTV to take on the prominent role.
Citizen TV was at the center of many transitions, welcoming Jimmy Mbogoh and Jasmine Wambui from KTN, alongside Franklin Wallah, who joined as Crime & Investigations Editor after a brief stint at TV47. The station also saw key exits, with Chemutai Goin taking up a role as the Principal Media Relations Officer at the Office of the National Assembly Speaker, and Hassan Mugambi stepping into a Communication Advisor position at the Ministry of Defence.
Elsewhere, Shiksha Arora left KBC for TV47, while Flora Limukii exited TV47 for CNBC in Rwanda. On the international front, Brenda Kerubo landed a coveted position at Bloomberg TV in the U.S. as a desk producer, reflecting the growing global demand for Kenyan talent. Meanwhile, Michelle Ngele transitioned to NTV to replace Burrows, completing a cycle of reshuffles that defined the year.
2024 will go down as a transformative year for Kenyan journalism, one that saw its top talent spread their wings, reinforcing Kenya’s place on the global media map while leaving local newsrooms restructured and re-energized.
