The CEO of the Kenya Film Classification Board, Dr. Ezekiel Mutua, has strongly advised that no additional witnesses from the Kamba community should testify against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua during the final day of his impeachment trial, set to be heard later today in the Senate. Dr. Mutua took to his social media to express concern over the performance of two key witnesses from the Kamba community during the National Assembly’s defense of the impeachment motion.

“The Kamba Council of Elders should call an emergency meeting and ensure no other Kamba appears as a witness. Hii imetosha!” Dr. Mutua wrote, indicating that the witnesses’ performance during the proceedings had been lackluster and damaging to their case.

The impeachment motion against DP Gachagua was spearheaded by Kibwezi West MP Hon. Mwengi Mutuse, who faced a tough cross-examination by Gachagua’s lawyer, Elisha Ongoya. Mutuse, despite initially presenting his case with confidence, struggled to defend it under scrutiny, often unable to give clear “yes” or “no” answers to key questions.

The situation was further compounded by the second witness, former Acting KEMSA CEO, Charles Mulwa. In his affidavit, Mulwa had accused the Deputy President and his sons of pressuring him to award a billion-shilling mosquito net tender to Gachagua’s family. However, during cross-examination, Mulwa failed to clarify key details, admitting that he was not present during the tender’s opening and cancellation process, weakening the credibility of his testimony.

Both witnesses became a topic of ridicule on social media, with netizens questioning their understanding of their own testimonies. The criticism was particularly intense on Tuesday evening, as the two struggled under Senate scrutiny.

As the impeachment trial continues today, the spotlight shifts to the Deputy President himself, who will be examined as part of the proceedings. Siaya Governor James Orengo, who is leading the National Assembly’s counsel, is expected to question him during the final stages of the hearing.

The impeachment motion against DP Gachagua has attracted national attention, with political tensions rising as the Senate nears a decision.
