The Kitui County Assembly Sectorial Committee on Agriculture, Water, and Irrigation has today started a rigorous week- long inspection exercise on major water provision projects across the county.

The committee which oversights several sectors in two key County ministries today kicked off her schedules by inspecting key points of the the mega Masinga Dam- Kitui town water pipeline which supplies water in Kitui town and it’s environs.

The Sector Committee which is Chaired by Kiomo/Kyethani Ward MCA, Hon. Anthony Musyimi Musyoka toured four critical sections of the pipeline which is manned by Kitui Water and Sanitation Company (KITWASCO). The team started by visiting Water resourver tanks at Kwa Ngindu and Katheka markets in Kyangwithya East and Kauwi wards respectively.

They later visited elevated water tanks located atop Kamuthumba Hill before heading to Masinga dam which hosts the water intake point as well as the main water treatment plant for the pipeline. The two sections of the water pipeline are in Masinga Sub-County, Machakos County.

During the inspection tour of the key water installations, the committee assessed the the Masinga Dam; the main water intake source for the pipeline as well as the multimillion treatment plant located a few metres from the intake.

The committee pledged to support the water company in ensuring upgrading the pipeline system, which includes rehabilitating pumps and pipes to alleviate water shortage in Kitui town and other areas served by the mega project.

“Mostly we give subsidy to cater for payments and power bills. We also need to provide funds to buy motor and other pumping machines as well as catering for a a few renovations here and there so that we can be at par with other serious water companies in the country,” said Nzambani Ward MCA Hon. Joseph Musyoka Mbite, the Vice Chairperson to the Committee

During their visit, which was hosted by the KITWASCO Operations Manager, Mr. Martin Wambua, the lawmakers gained insights into the pipeline system, chlorination processes, and the pumping systems among others.
