The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested a teacher in Bungoma County over allegations that she solicited KSh300,000 from three unemployed teachers in exchange for helping them secure jobs at the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

The suspect, identified as Lilian Nelima Buluma, a teacher at Friends School Kamusinga Boys High School, was arrested on Monday, October 12, 2026, following preliminary investigations into complaints that she had demanded KSh100,000 from each of the three job seekers.

According to the EACC, preliminary investigations indicate that Buluma had allegedly received KSh150,000 through M-Pesa as part of the disputed payments.

The commission said the suspect allegedly claimed to have connections within the TSC and other government offices that could help her facilitate the recruitment of the unemployed teachers.

Following her arrest, Buluma was processed at the EACC Western Regional Office before being booked at Bungoma Police Station as investigations continued.

The EACC said the suspect could face charges of requesting and receiving a bribe, contrary to Section 6 as read with Section 18 of the Anti-Bribery Act, 2016.

The allegations have brought renewed attention to the risks facing job seekers who may be targeted by individuals claiming to have influence over public-sector recruitment processes.

The commission reiterated its commitment to combating corruption and promoting integrity in public service.

The allegations remain subject to investigation, and the suspect is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
