Senior political leaders from the Mt Kenya East region have dismissed attempts to portray the outcome of the recent Ol Kalou by-election as a reflection of the region’s political direction, insisting their support for President William Ruto and Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki remains unwavering ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during the Annual General Meeting at Kirindine Senior School in Igembe South Constituency, Meru County, Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes Geoffrey Ruku said Mt Kenya East remains firmly aligned with the Kenya Kwanza administration and will continue backing President Ruto and Deputy President Kindiki.

Ruku dismissed claims that Prof. Kindiki lacks political influence in the region, expressing confidence that the Deputy President’s support base will become evident when Kenyans head to the polls in 2027.

He said residents of Mt Kenya East recognise the value of working closely with the national government, citing ongoing development projects implemented under the Kenya Kwanza administration as evidence of the government’s commitment to improving livelihoods.

The Cabinet Secretary also criticised former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of attempting to persuade residents to distance themselves from the government. He argued that such efforts are unlikely to succeed because the region continues to benefit from investments in infrastructure and public services.

Ruku further maintained that the Ol Kalou by-election was an isolated contest whose outcome should not be interpreted as the political position of the wider Mt Kenya region ahead of the next General Election.

The Cabinet Secretary was joined by Buuri MP Mugambi Rindikiri, Igembe South MP John Paul Mwirigi and Nominated MP Dorothy Muthoni, who echoed his sentiments and reaffirmed their support for the Kenya Kwanza administration.

The leaders said the government has rolled out transformative development projects across Mt Kenya East, including improvements in road infrastructure, expanded access to public services and programmes aimed at improving the livelihoods of residents.

According to the leaders, the government’s development record has strengthened public confidence in President Ruto’s administration, and they expressed confidence that the region will remain firmly behind President Ruto and Deputy President Kindiki as they seek a second term in the 2027 General Election.

They also urged residents to remain united and continue supporting government programmes, saying sustained collaboration with the national government would accelerate economic growth, create employment opportunities and enhance service delivery across the region.
