A family is mourning the tragic loss of their 23-year-old daughter, Joy Kanini, whose dismembered remains were recovered in Nyeri County in a case that has shocked many Kenyans.
According to relatives, Joy had recently spent time with her parents when they visited her while attending to personal errands. During the visit, they reportedly invited her to travel back home with them, but she declined, citing work commitments.
A few days later, the family received a distressing call from a man identified as John, who informed them that Joy was missing. Concerned by the report, the family traveled to Nyeri and reported the matter to the police.

Family members claim that upon arriving in Nyeri, they found the man in possession of Joy’s mobile phone. However, they allege that he later disappeared under unclear circumstances and has not been seen since. Authorities have not publicly identified any suspect or announced any arrests in connection with the case.
The search for Joy took a devastating turn when investigators directed the family to a local mortuary where unidentified human remains had been preserved. Relatives say they were able to identify the body through distinctive birthmarks, while additional body parts recovered later further strengthened their belief that the remains belonged to Joy.

The family has also requested DNA testing to conclusively confirm the identity of the deceased.
According to information shared by the family from the postmortem examination, the victim’s body had been dismembered before being abandoned in different locations. Some body parts have since been recovered, although her head and neck had not been found by the time of publication.
The gruesome circumstances surrounding Joy’s death have sparked outrage and renewed calls for a swift and thorough investigation. Family members are appealing to authorities to intensify efforts to trace those responsible and ensure justice is served.
Police investigations into the murder are ongoing.
