Seven people were killed and 27 others injured in a grisly road accident involving a trailer, a passenger bus, two private vehicles and a motorcycle along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway on Sunday night.

The accident occurred at about 9.30pm at the ACK Salama area, a section of the highway that has witnessed several fatal crashes in the past.

According to preliminary reports, the trailer crashed into an oncoming bus belonging to Rembo Shuttle , before ploughing into two private vehicles and a motorcycle at the slopes near ACK Salama, triggering a devastating chain collision.

Emergency response teams rushed to the scene and evacuated the injured victims to Sultan Hamud Level 4 Hospital, where 27 people are currently receiving treatment.

Police confirmed that seven people died in the crash, with their bodies moved to the Sultan Hamud Level 4 Hospital mortuary pending identification and post-mortem examinations.

Traffic along the busy highway was disrupted for several hours as rescue operations and clearance of the wreckage continued late into the night.

Police officers have launched investigations to establish the circumstances that led to the accident.

The latest tragedy adds to the growing list of fatal crashes reported along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway, renewing concerns over road safety on one of the country’s busiest transport corridors.
