Students at Kitui School were sent home on Sunday following unrest at the institution on Saturday night.

In a message to parents and guardians, Principal Mutua B. M. said the disturbance occurred at about 11.41pm and that a decision had been made to release learners from the school.

The principal assured parents that all students were safe and had been accounted for.

“We inform you that last night, 6/6/2026 at 11.41pm, there was unrest in the school. It was agreed that we release the students today 7/6/2026. All students are safe and accounted for. More guidelines to be issued,” the message read.

The school administration did not immediately disclose the cause of the unrest or the extent of any damage resulting from the incident.

Parents and guardians were advised to make arrangements to receive their children as school officials prepared to issue further guidance on the way forward.

The incident comes amid renewed concern over cases of student unrest reported in some schools across the country.

Education officials had not issued a statement on the matter by Sunday morning.
