Kalonzo Musyoka Accuses Police of “Terror Tactics” as Standoff Over Raphael Tuju Intensifies

A political storm is unfolding in Karen after Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka launched a scathing attack on the Kenya Police Service, accusing it of acting like a “terrorist organisation” in its handling of former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju.

Speaking from Karen Police Station, where a group of opposition leaders has camped, Kalonzo claimed Tuju was subjected to inhumane treatment despite presenting himself to authorities in good faith.

“The Kenya Police Service has become a terrorist organisation, and we shall not move an inch until Hon Raphael Tuju, who urgently requires medical care, is released and taken to hospital,” Kalonzo declared.

In a series of statements, the Wiper leader painted a dramatic sequence of events leading to the standoff. He alleged that police and DCI officers had earlier surrounded and barricaded Tuju’s residence, refusing to let anyone leave until they secured him.

According to Kalonzo, he personally intervened and drove Tuju to the police station to record a statement, emphasizing that the move was meant to uphold due process and cooperation with authorities.
However, he claimed the situation escalated once they arrived at the station.

“What followed was unacceptable. Hon. Tuju was carried away in a manner that no Kenyan, indeed no human being, should ever experience,” he said.

Kalonzo further framed the incident as a broader fight for justice and civil liberties, stating: “When justice becomes a weapon and dignity is stripped in broad daylight, silence is not an option; we stand with Hon Raphael Tuju, and we will not move.”

The standoff has drawn the presence of several high-profile leaders, including Eugene Wamalwa, Justin Muturi, Senator Dan Maanzo, renowned scholar PLO Lumumba, and lawyer Ndegwa Njiru, among others.

The leaders have vowed to remain at the station until Tuju is released or clarity is provided regarding his condition and the reasons behind the police action.

The unfolding events come just hours after Tuju resurfaced following a brief disappearance, during which he claimed he had been trailed by unknown individuals—raising further questions about his security and the circumstances leading to his attempted arrest.

As tensions rise, pressure is mounting on security agencies to respond to the allegations and clarify the legality and conduct of the operation.
