In a sweeping leadership shake-up aimed at strengthening service delivery, Governor Gladys Wanga has nominated Danish Otieno Onyango as the new Deputy Governor while unveiling key changes within her Cabinet.

The appointment, announced through an executive order dated March 16, 2026, follows a vacancy in the Deputy Governor’s office after the resignation of the previous holder. Onyango’s nomination now awaits approval by the County Assembly.

A seasoned public servant, Onyango currently serves as the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Roads and Public Works. He has been at the center of Homa Bay’s infrastructure transformation, overseeing the expansion of road networks across all 40 wards.

Under his leadership, the county recorded notable milestones in the 2024/2025 financial year, including the opening of 736 kilometers of new roads, maintenance of 538 kilometers of existing roads, and rehabilitation of 116 kilometers of access roads connecting schools, health facilities, markets, and beaches.

In the same directive, Governor Wanga reshuffled her Cabinet, nominating Elijah Obiny Dede from Ndhiwa Constituency to head the Trade, Industry, Tourism, Marketing and Co-operative Development docket. Dede is credited with revitalizing the co-operative sector, registering 127 new co-operatives and expanding membership significantly.

Isaac Victor Ongiri from Kasipul Constituency has also been nominated to serve as CECM for Governance, Administration, Communication and Devolution. He brings experience in public administration and inter-county governance.

Meanwhile, Dr. Joash Aloo has been reassigned to the Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock Development docket, where he is expected to drive growth in key value chains including cotton, maize, rice, and edible oils.
The Governor directed the County Secretary to oversee a smooth transition, emphasizing that all nominees meet the integrity standards outlined in the Constitution.

The nominations have now been forwarded to the County Assembly for vetting and approval as required by law.

Governor Wanga expressed confidence in the new team, saying the changes are designed to accelerate development and enhance service delivery across Homa Bay County.
